Streaming apps

Streaming apps are software which enables devices such as smartphones, tablets, or smart TVs to receive media streamed over the internet. These are also sometimes referred to as “OTT apps” as the content being streamed is delivered “over the top” of traditional media channels via an internet connection.

Smart TV apps

These are apps which are created specifically for Smart TVs. These apps typically deliver a range of streamed content over the internet, including video and music. Video content can be streamed on demand or as linear channels. Examples include Netflix, BBC iPlayer, and Apple TV.

There are also apps specific to television manufacturers such as Samsung TV Plus and LG Channels which host an array of FAST channels.

Smartphone streaming apps

Smartphones host a range of available streaming apps which are used to deliver video and music media content over the internet to individual devices. Examples include apps such as Apple Music and Spotify for streaming music, or Netflix and Disney+ for streaming video content. These apps enable users to stream content wherever they are, as long they have a stable internet connection.

Streaming apps for smartphones are typically developed for Android and iOS operating systems.

Streaming TV services

These are services which allow users to stream a variety of TV content over the internet. Similar to OTT services, but specifically enabling the digital distribution of TV shows and films as streamed media to end-users. These services are usually accessed via apps through a range of devices such as Smart TVs and smartphones.
